Doing it, step by step
Allow installs from outside the Amazon store
Fire OS refuses anything not bought from Amazon until you tell it otherwise. Go to Settings, then My Fire TV, then Developer Options, and turn on "Apps from Unknown Sources". On newer builds that entry stays hidden until something actually asks for it, so if you cannot find it, carry on to the next step and it will reappear later as "Install unknown apps" listed against Downloader specifically. If Developer Options is missing altogether, open Settings, My Fire TV, About, and press select on the device name seven times.
Install Downloader
Return to the home screen and open the search icon in the top left. Type Downloader. The one you want is plain orange with a white arrow, published by AFTVnews, and it is free. Install it, then open it once before going any further and approve the storage permission it asks for. Skipping that permission is the single most common reason the next step fails, and it fails without telling you why.
Fetch IPTV Smarters Pro
Inside Downloader, select the address bar at the top and type the short link sent to you on WhatsApp, or the official Smarters APK address. Take your time typing - the on-screen keyboard makes mistakes easy and a single wrong character produces an unhelpful error. Press Go. The file downloads, then the Fire OS installer opens by itself. Choose Install, wait, then Done. Downloader will offer to delete the installer file; accept, because the stick has very little storage and the file is no longer needed.
Find the app and choose the Xtream option
The new app does not appear in the main row of the home screen. It lands at the far end of Your Apps and Channels, which is where most people conclude the install failed. Scroll right until you find it. While you are there, hold the select button on it and choose Move to Front, so you never have to hunt for it again. Open it, accept the terms, and on the login screen pick "Login with Xtream Codes API" rather than the M3U option.
Enter the three values from your activation message
Name the profile whatever you like; it only labels the account on that screen. Then type the username, password and server address exactly as they were sent, including the http:// at the front and the port number at the end. Press Add User. The app now downloads the channel list and the programme guide, which takes a minute or so the first time and a few seconds on every start after that.
Set the decoder and build a favourites row
Open Live TV and pick any channel to confirm it plays. Before you settle in, do two things. Go into Settings, then Player settings, and set the decoder to hardware, which offloads the work to the stick's video chip and removes most stuttering. Then start holding the select button on the channels you actually watch to add them to favourites. Thirty or forty entries is what turns a list of 25,000 into something usable on a Tuesday night, and it is ten minutes well spent on the first evening.
Leave the old package connected for a few days
Resist cancelling anything immediately. Keep the cable or satellite box on its own HDMI input for the first week and switch between the two whenever there is something you care about on. That is the only way to find out whether a channel you assumed was there is genuinely missing, and it costs you one more month at most. Once a busy weekend has passed without you reaching for the old remote, make the call.
When something goes wrong
Downloader reports that the file cannot be downloaded
Nine times out of ten this is a typing error in the address rather than anything wrong with the file. Re-enter it slowly, checking each character, or ask on WhatsApp for the mirror link. If the address is definitely right, go back and confirm that unknown sources is enabled for Downloader specifically - on recent Fire OS versions that is a separate per-app toggle rather than the single global switch older guides describe.
The login is rejected as invalid credentials
The server field causes almost all of these. It needs the http:// prefix and the port on the end, in the form http://server:8080, and pasting from a chat window frequently carries an invisible trailing space along with it. Type all three values by hand once before concluding the account is at fault. If it still refuses, check whether the trial has simply expired, which produces the same message.
The picture breaks up in the evening but is fine at midday
That pattern points at bandwidth rather than the stick. Switch the decoder to hardware first, since it costs nothing to try. If the stick is on Wi-Fi and the router is more than a room away, an Ethernet adapter for around fifteen dollars usually settles it for good. Where your internet provider is throttling streaming traffic at peak hours, a VPN set to a nearby server restores the speed that was being held back.
The app has vanished from the home screen
It has not been uninstalled - Fire OS has simply pushed it to the end of Your Apps and Channels behind everything Amazon would rather you opened. Scroll all the way right, hold select on the icon, and choose Move to Front.

Its limitation is output rather than compatibility: it stops at 1080p, so the Ultra HD feeds included in your plan will never actually reach the television. On a main set, the 4K Max is the one worth having.
Can I sign in on the stick and my phone at the same time?
Install it on both, and on anything else in the house. What a plan limits is the number of streams playing at once, not the number of devices holding the login. On a single-connection plan both can be signed in while only one plays at a time; a two-connection plan removes that restriction entirely.
Do I have to keep Downloader installed afterwards?
No, though it is worth leaving in place. It takes almost no storage and you will want it again the day you decide to try TiViMate, or when a player needs updating outside the Amazon store. Delete the APK file it downloaded, certainly, but the app itself can stay.
